Las Vegas-based D A V Productions Partners with Nellis Air Force Base to Create Historical Documentary

March 8, 2006 – Las Vegas – DAV Productions, a Las Vegas-based audio, video and lighting production company, was commissioned by nearby Nellis Air Force Base to produce an in-depth documentary with hopes of distribution to PBS and local broadcast channels.

The project showcases the base’s efforts to preserve archeological sites at what is now the Nevada Test and Training Range, located just outside of Tonopah, Nevada, more than 200 miles northwest of Las Vegas. The documentary focuses on a couple of families that lived and mined in the seclusion of the Cactus Range in the early 1900’s, with the two surviving members highlighted in the program.

“This project has been a year in the making and is a collaborative effort between DAV Productions and the Nellis Air Force Base Archeological Program, directed by Archeologists Keith Myhrer and Tracy Henderson,” said Jae Thiele, DAV Productions’ Media Production Manager. “We are honored to help bring the story of these families into the limelight, and let them explain in their own words why they would choose to live and work in such a remote area for nearly 30 years,” he added.

The half-hour documentary is available for broadcast on PBS and the City of Las Vegas and Clark County television channels. The U.S. Air Force has received requests for the documentary to be used as an educational tool in Nevada museums, high schools and colleges. A second anthropology documentary that explores the cultural traditions of the Nevada Paiute and Shoshone Tribes during an annual pine nut harvest on the Nevada Test and Training Range is currently in production.
